Mango Gleaning, a Morning Well Spent

We had such a fun time yesterday gleaning mangoes with CROS Ministries! Their gleaning program really is wonderful. We picked several boxes full of mangoes that will be distributed to locals in need.

What is gleaning you ask? Gleaning is a practice to combat hunger and is thousands of years old. Volunteers pick the produce from grower's fields that is left over after the commercial harvest. The produce is then donated to the Palm Beach County Food Bank and other food-distributing partners, who distribute it to local agencies with feeding programs for individuals and families with low-incomes, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and the homeless. Gleaning makes for a fun morning outdoors, all for a good cause. Volunteers put fresh produce on the plates of those in need with just one morning of volunteering!

Gleaning season is sadly coming to a close, but we’ll be back in the fields one more time this year! Join us Saturday June 29th in Lantana to glean our last round of mangoes. Click here to sign up to join us! All supplies are provided. Ages 13+ are welcome. See you in the fields soon!

*Please note mangoes are a member of the poison ivy family. It’s recommend that those who are allergic not participate in the gleaning.*
